Last week we kicked off our unit on looking at the long vowel - consonant - silent e pattern (ex: came, ride, care, cube). We talked about how the vowel sound changes when the silent e is added. The silent E jumps over the consonant and makes the vowel say its long sound (letter name). The kids immediately started noticing words that have a silent e on the end that don't follow the pattern (ex: strange, sore, before, are) so we are now collect words that fit and do not fit the pattern.
