We are wrapping up our study of writing personal narratives! This week we focused on picking one piece of writing that we wanted to polish up - like putting the frosting and sprinkles on a birthday cake!
We first discussed that authors go back to stories they have written and add details or change parts or add to illustrations. We reviewed that stories have a: beginning, middle and end, details (itsy-bitsy parts, craft moves like making words pop out), people that move and talk.
We then talked about authors going back through their stories to edit their work so readers are able to read it and enjoy it. I modeled the process of using a checklist to double check their work. Students then used a checklist to guide them through editing each page.
Last we decorated covers for their personal narrative to publish it!
