This was our first, full busy week of learning together!
Our reading lessons focused on continuing to review Read To Self expectations and growing our stamina to be able to read for a longer period of time. We are able to read for about 12-14 minutes before needing to stop. Our goal is to be able to read for 20 minutes. We also talked about the importance of choosing books that are JUST RIGHT for us like Goldilocks searched for things that were just right for her. A JUST RIGHT book is a book we are interested in and can read most of the words on a page (have to really think/ figure out 5 or less words).
As a class we read books about, discussed, and created charts about citizenships traits like treating others the way we want to be treated and encouraging each other. We created a class promise about how we want to our classmates to be and everyone signed it in agreement. We learned more about each other through the sharing of ME bags.
Today we started figuring out the difference between letters, words and sentences. We worked as a team to sort examples into their categories! Check out our picture!
Reminder:
Curriculum Night is Wednesday, September 3. K-2 parents will begin at 6 p.m. in the Commons for a brief program and then will go to their child's classroom for a message from the teacher. Parents with children in grades 3-5 will do the same at 7 p.m. There is a lot of important information to cover, so we will begin right on time for each session.
Curriculum Night is a time for parents and teachers to meet and discuss classroom routines. Because of space limitations, we respectfully ask that your children remain at home.
No school Monday due to Labor Day!
Related Arts 9/2-9/5
Monday - No School
Tuesday - Art
Wednesday - Music
Thursday - Library (bring library books to return and get new ones)
Friday - P.E. (wear sneakers/tennis shoes)
